Randolph—Richard A. O’Connell, 76, died Sunday night, May 15, 2022 at his home.

He was born January 25, 1946 in Randolph; the son of Thomas A. and Hazel (Rand) O’Connell. He was raised in Randolph-Braintree and had lived in North Hyde Park 19 years, before returning to Randolph in 2019.

Richard had been a farmer, had his own rubbish route, and was a heavy equipment operator for Casella Waste in Morrisville. Richard was married to Carol Duval in South Randolph in 1969. He enjoyed fishing, farming, gardening, sugaring, bird and bear watching, and giving people nicknames.

Survivors include his wife, Carol O’Connell of Randolph; son, Richard “Tom” O’Connell of Randolph Center; sisters, Marjorie Chase of Randolph Center, and Lillian LaValley and husband Daniel, of Randolph; brother-in-law, Francis Chase of Randolph Center; many nieces and nephews; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; son, Douglas O’Connell; sisters, Kathleen Perry and her husband Robert, and Dorothy Chase; and brothers, James O’Connell and John O’Connell.

Graveside memorial services with military honors will be held Thursday, June 2 at 11 a.m. at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.
