Group of Vershire Volunteers Get Town Ice Rink Set Up

The temperatures that were close to 70° just a couple of weeks ago, seem far in the past, as the snow from last week remains on the ground, and December chill is upon us. The cold weather set the right mood in Vershire on Saturday, Nov. 19, when a revolving group of volunteers spent several hours setting up the ice rink at the Town Center.

This year’s 50 ft. x 100 ft. rink is considerably larger than the one erected last year, due in part to the overwhelming success of last year’s rink. Organizer and rec committee member Ken Bushey said there are plans to have one more work day in early December to put up the lighting.

The last step is to place the liner and have Vershire Fire and Rescue fill the rink. The ideal conditions for this are three days of freezing weather, with temperatures in the teens at night, and 32-36° during the day.

After the rink work was finished for the day, the Vershire Town Center committee hosted what they called a “Townsgiving” potluck dinner. A small, but enthusiastic, group of folks gathered, met new neighbors, and enjoyed each other’s company and good food.
