Randolph Man Dies in I-91 Rollover Crash

Crime / Aug. 10, 2017 11:33am EDT

Jeremy P. Johnston, 26, of Randolph, died Sunday night after the Subaru Forester he was driving went off the shoulder of I-91 northbound, near Springfield, and struck a large tree. Troopers said investigation determined that the Forester then rolled several times, and Johnston was ejected from the vehicle.

Johnston was transported to Springfield Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The accident, at mile marker 43, was reported shortly before midnight on August 6.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Johnston was alone in the Forester and was not properly restrained, according to a report from Tpr. Zachary Gauthier of the state police barracks in Westminster.

Members of Springfield’s fire department, rescue squad, and police department also responded to the scene.

Gauthier reported clear, cool, dry highway conditions at the time of the crash, which totaled Johnston’s 2004 Forester.

Police said speed appears to be a factor in the crash. The investigation continues and anyone with information is asked to contact the Westminster barracks at 802-722-4600.

An obituary for Johnston is on page B-3 of this week’s Herald.
