The Herald of Randolph welcomes recent South Royalton High School graduate Emily Ballou as the paper’s news intern this summer.

Not her first time writing for the Herald, Ballou has covered sports, music, drama, and miscellaneous school and community news for South Royalton for the past few years.

Throughout high school, Ballou has been a legislative intern in Montpelier at the State House. An active participant in community service, she is also a recurring staff member with the HOBY Vermont chapter of Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership, seminars designed to develop leadership, service, and innovation. Ballou has also been a part of student government and a multitude of school clubs such as SADD, ALARM, and EnviroClub, and was the basketball game announcer at SoRo’s “Royal Palace” for many years.

A Red Sox fan, Ballou’s many other interests include playing baseball, soccer, competitive nordic skiing, running, biking, singing, dancing, choreographing, and musical theatre. Ballou has performed in numerous theatrical performances around the area, and was most recently seen as the dragon in Chandler’s summer production “Shrek: The Musical.”

Ballou lives with her parents, Michael and Laurie Ballou; her brother, David and their rescue dog, London whom she greatly enjoys spending time with.

Ballou will attend Middlebury College in the fall, in hopes of pursuing a degree in political science and possible minors in musical theatre and dance. She hopes that working more with The Herald of Randolph this summer will give her more experience for a possible future career in journalism.
