More than two years after the event, Dennis Dundas of East Bethel was sentenced to 5-10 years in prison for shooting a house guest three times after an argument at his home.

He will serve three years if he maintains good behavior.

Dundas was found guilty in Windsor Superior Court in January of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His victim, Donald Giovanella, a friend at the time, suffered lasting injuries from the attack.

Dundas, who had no previous criminal record, faced a maximum penalty of up to 15 years. State’s Atty. Heidi Remick told the court that Dundas “had never really taken responsibility for what happened.”

Dundas told police that Giovanella had threatened to leave his home with a bottle of brandy and attacked him when Dundas objected.
