RIKKI WHALEN RIKKI WHALEN The cheerful voice that folks hear when they call the middle/ high school building in Rochester is Rikki Whalen, a young woman who calls herself “compulsively organized” and is happy to be working at the Rochester School.

Whalen grew up in Roxbury and after graduating from Northfield High School in 2002, took classes in early childhood education. She took over her current position as administrative assistant, registrar, and substitute coordinator during the previous school year, working as a long-term sub after Meg Allen left, and was officially hired for the position this year.

“My job is to run this office and assist the principal in any way I can,” she explained, noting that she just took a student-census training, and will also be handling that for the Rochester Schools. “There’s a lot to it, compiling all of those reports for the state.”

It’s also part of Whalen’s job to assist the guidance counselor by mailing report cards, progress reports, etc., and do any other mailing that needs to be done.

“I love the interactions with the kids and the staff here,” she said. “They just put a smile on my face. I also like interacting with the parents and getting to know the families here. I’m a very organized person and I like being able to revamp some of the systems and keep everything easy to access. I really love what I do!”
