Good Week for Chelsea Girls

By Anthony Spinella

The Chelsea varsity girls played at home against the Whitcomb Hornets last Wednesday night, Feb. 8. The game was rough, but a balanced attack from the Lady Devils slowly overpowered Whitcomb over the course of the game.

With a combined 30 points from Chelsea’s top three scorers (Jasmine Braman with 10, Whitney Ladd with 12 and Andrea Neville with a solid eight), Chelsea came out with the big win over Whitcomb, 40-19. Hannah Braman and Hannah Mesh each scored four, and Nicole Pierpont had two. The Lady Devils then had only a day before they played a big Cabot Huskies team on Friday, Feb. 10.

Win Over Cabot

Despite the size disadvantage, Chelsea started the game on an 8-0 run, all of which came from easy lay-ups. Jasmine Braman exploded in the first quarter, scoring 15 points off of six lay-ups and a big three-pointer midway through the period. She recorded nearly half a dozen steals, and helped Chelsea to a 23-7 lead going into only the second quarter.

In the second period, Chelsea’s hot start began to cool as the teams struggled to score, with both teams combining for a measly nine points. Chelsea got into foul trouble early in the second because of their aggressive play, but still managed to stay on top going into halftime with the 28-11 lead over the Huskies.

Going into the third quarter, Chelsea shook out their shooting kinks and scored 18, while holding Cabot to only five points. The final period was much of the same story, as Chelsea finished off the game with a solid 13-point fourth quarter, routing the Huskies 59-21. Jasmine Braman ended the game with 21 points, with another 19 points coming from Whitney Ladd. Andrea Neville scored eight and Hannah Mesh added an easy five points. The Lady Devils now prepare for a game at Sharon on Thursday, Feb. 16. Go Devils!
