Francis N. Clark

Strafford—Frances N. Clark, 84, died unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 10, 2012 at her home in Strafford, Vt.

She was born August 12, 1927 in Royalton, Vt., the daughter of Karl E. and Lethia M. (Davis) Wood. She attended school in South Royalton, Vt.

On November 11, 1942 she married Edwin C. “Jip” Clark. They lived in Bethel Lympus and Sharon, before moving to Strafford in 1960. Edwin died January 10, 1998.

She was a member of the Legion Post #26 Women’s Auxiliary and V.F.W. Post #2571 Women’s Auxiliary both of White River Jct., Vt. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, gambling with family at many different casinos, and doing crossword puzzles in the evenings. Frances’ great love was for her pug dogs: Kandie Anne, Sassy, Missy, Snicker Doodle, Cuddles, Skittles, and Myia.

She is survived by her two sons, Karl Clark of Sharon, Vt. and Douglas Clark and his wife, Deborah of Stafford, Vt.; four daughters, Patricia Hammond of Strafford, Vt., Beverly Moses and her husband, Gardner, Jr. of Tunbridge, Vt., Diane Cavanugh and her companion, Randy Vanderwalker of Minerva, N.Y., and Sherrie Benard and her husband, Brad of Blaine, Wash.; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchild­ren; 12 great-great-grandchild­ren; a sister, Nancy Amell and her husband, Sheldon, Sr. of South Royalton, Vt.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Clark; a daughter, Linda Francis Clark; two sisters, Nina Boles and Fannie Clark; a brother, Elmore Wood; and her companion, Leonard Clark.

At her request, there will be no public calling hours or funeral services. Burial will be in the Branch View Cemetery in South Royalton, Vt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a fund for Frances’s Pugs, c/o Patricia Hammond, 397 Brook Road, Sharon, Vt. 05065.

The Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea, Vt. is in charge of the arrangements.
