Vershire

Our small town has unfortunately not escaped the uptick in theft that has been happening as of late. Last week, the town garage was burgled in the wee hours. Persons unknown forced the bathroom window open, rummaged around opening drawers, and made off with some equipment. If any readers have information regarding this incident, please contact the Vermont State Police.

After last week’s announcement that there would be snow for the snowshoe-a-thon, I am humbled, and at least grateful that the ground is white. So, the SAT will go on! Be prepared for potentially icy conditions, and come and have a great time.

The Adults in Mind (AIM) program at the library has a special event in store in Friday, Feb. 24. Andrew Mudge, whose parents are well-known part-time Vershirites, is a recognized film writer and maker whose films have won awards at the best film festivals including Sundance, Cannes, and Tribeca. He won the prestigious Chrysler Million Dollar Film Festival award for his film “Gabriel y Gato” and produced a Sundance Festival hit entitled “Chicken Pox Pal” about, you guessed it, a little boy with chicken pox rented out to a family who wants their child infected. The versatile Mr. Mudge has done a movie about monsters, and a documentary for the UN on “indigenous issues!”

Andrew is currently working on the final stages of a film telling “the story of a wayward young African man who leaves the slums of Johannesburg to bury his father in their ancestral land in the country of Lesotho. The film is entitled “The For Gaysville

Kingdom.” Remember, you saw it first in Vershire!

On Friday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Town Center, Andrew will share not only some scenes from this new film, but stories of the process of becoming a film writer and maker. He will also show his award-winning short subject, “The Perfect Gooseys.”

Everyone is invited to come and meet him, see his films and enjoy another film event brought to you by the Vershire Community Library. Admission is free, and refreshments will be served.

Tonight is Community Soup Night at the Church-Orr House.
