As I sit to write this column, I am mindful of a few members of our community who could use our prayers and thoughts. This past week, Jean Dulmage has been moved to Brookside Nursing Home in White River. She has been bravely battling Lou Gehrig’s disease at home and is now in need of 24-hour care. Jean’s husband John has invited those who know Jean to please stop by and visit her. This is a terrible disease that ravages the body but leaves the mind receptive, and Jean could use the loving support of friends.
Susanne Rudolph is in serious condition in Berkley, Calif. Her health has been compromised and she has faced many complications that have kept her in the hospital. Her family and friends are praying for her recovery. Cards of support can be sent to Lloyd and Susanne Rudolph, 2 Ardmore Road, Kensington, Calif. 94707.
Oke stopped in yesterday to tell us of Terry Del Gato’s passing. Terry had been battling brain cancer. Terry passed through our town many times throughout the past many years, and would sit on the steps of the BGS carving beautiful canes with amazing figures on the handles. He also carved that gorgeous sculpture that sat on the corner of the porch and then in the garden of “Mother Nature” with the catamount at her feet.
As a side note, I would like to say that I never realized how important sending an expression of concern, love and support was until I was a recipient this past year. The few moments it takes to write a note touches the heart of those who receive it.
This Saturday, Feb. 18, the Barnard Winter Farmer’s Market, which is held every two weeks, will be at the Barnard Town Hall. The last market had many new vendors as well as the “regulars.” This has been a wonderful opportunity to meet local producers and take home some delicious goods. You never know whom you will meet and what delight you may take home to enjoy.
School vacation is coming up, and we want to remind everyone that Silver Lake has been wonderful to skate on. Many folks have taken their adventure around the whole lake! We are hopeful the conditions will remain good as the temperature rises and falls.
