SoRo Alums Prep SoRo Seniors
After winter break, South Royalton High School students return to school quicker than their recent alumni peers.
This window of opportunity allows the senior class to peer into the lives of college freshmen, who return to SoRo to share their experiences. Many college students were working or traveling at this time, but a few were able to return to SoRo as guest presenters. These recent grads, now college students, who spoke with the seniors were Daniel Bingham (UVM, computer science), Alison Turner (Wagner College, arts administration), James Doyle-Brahman (SUNY Albany), Jackson Howe (Castleton, special education), and Mathew Caron (Emery University, anthropology and human biology).
Across the board, all parties said they’ve acclimated well to college life, and had no trouble making friends.
Turner stated that, after a solid orientation and participation in other programs, she has no problem seeing the same people each day, despite being in a large city.
The alum all found meaningful opportunities through extracurricular activities varying from leadership positions, drama programs, volunteer service, and sports. Homework loads also varied between students, but each seems to be doing well, even if it takes a few hours more in the library.
Overall, the returning students said they were happy with their choices and the SoRo seniors had an opportunity to ask questions and reflect upon the future when they will make similar transitions.
