Rochester Selectboard Adopts Warning for Town Meeting
Perhaps due to the icy rain falling outside, there were only a few people attending the Rochester Selectboard’s Monday, Jan. 23 meeting, which turned out to be quite brief.
The board discussed several items to put on the warning for Town Meet- ing, including a petitioned article re- garding the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision.
The board had already met the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 17 to adopt a proposed town budget of $464,969 (with $330,648 of that to be raised by taxes) and a proposed highway budget of $296,840 (with $170,140 of that to be raised by taxes) for the next fiscal year. The total amount of $500,788 to be raised by taxes—just over a 2% in- crease from the current year—will be voted on at Town Meeting. In addition, there are a number of articles for the funding of community agencies and reserve funds on the warning.
The board voted to adopt the warn- ing for Town Meeting, which will take place Monday, March 5 at 7 p.m. at the Rochester School.
Board chair Larry Straus noted that Mary Russ of the White River Partner- ship had met with several local land- owners severely affected by flooding from Tropical Storm Irene to discuss filling out hazard mitigation paper- work.
The board also voted to renew a li- quor license for the Skip Mart.
The next regular meeting of the Rochester Selectboard will be Monday, Feb. 13 at 6:15 p.m. at the town office.
