Road Crews Pull All-Nighter During Ice Storm
Randolph road crews had their first all-nighter of the winter season Monday as a hard freezing rain threatened to turn all the town’s roads, especially gravel roads, impassable.
“It was incredible,” said said Jim Morgan, public works supervisor for the town. “Rob (Runnels) and the rest of them did a great job.”
The crews went off work at 3:30 p.m. Monday but were called back in at 5:30 and worked right through the night, Morgan noted.
They kept a total of six trucks busy spreading both salt and sand, with many roads requiring multiple passes. When morning dawned, virtually every road in town was in passable shape.
It hasn’t been a heavy overtime winter this year, Morgan acknowledged, but this was a tough storm.
“Over all, it’s easier to deal with snow than it is with the ice,” he commented.
