RUHS Alumni Association Looking for Contact Info, News

RANDOLPH BY NIGHT Cars drive along Pleasant Street, passing shops on Merchants Row in Randolph on Monday evening. (Herald / Tim Calabro) RANDOLPH BY NIGHT Cars drive along Pleasant Street, passing shops on Merchants Row in Randolph on Monday evening. (Herald / Tim Calabro) Organizations at some area schools are considering options for keeping alive the conduit of older and younger folks who have graduated from those area school systems.

Others are considering disbanding altogether. The Randolph Alumni, which is a product of the Randolph, Braintree, and Brookfield schools coming together overtime to form the union school district, has a short list of long-term organizers. Year after year, they hold an annual banquet around the Fourth of July holiday for in excess of 100 guests, and send out an annual 800 piece mailing of a newsletter/fundraising request for scholarship support along with the banquet invitation. Much of the mail is returned, netting a loss in postal expenses and contact with members.

It has been the organization’s goal to increase its online connections, with email and Facebook. That is growing, but it is critical that younger generations get involved and support the RUHS Alumni organization with ideas for gatherings, scholarship support and data management. Anyone who has connections with classmates and would like to help build an alumni support team is urged to contact Andrea Easton at ccomforts@comcast.net, or Martha Lawrence at ernest_lawrence@comcast.net or 728-3251.

Anyone who is looking for the most up-to-date class contact list, or who has an event to post, is urged to let Easton or Lawrence know. Any information on updates or preferences for e-mail contact would be appreciated and should be sent to Lawrence by email if possible, or by regular mail to RUHS Alumni, P.O. Box 22, Randolph, Vt. 05060.

Elaine Soule has multiple copies of the school publication from 1942- 52. Anyone interested in having these for safekeeping or to share at reunion gatherings, should contact her at 728-9003.

The Class of 1977 can check in with Penni Gray Boutelle at pboutelle@kronos.com. They are having a reunion planning a meeting Sunday, Jan. 29 at the Three Stallion Inn in Randolph. Contact Boutelle for the time.

Other classes with contacts and news to post should let Easton and Lawrence know and they will do their best to circulate it, post it in The Herald, and on the R.U.H.S. Alumni Facebook page. New members are always welcome to join the alumni committee.

“We’re considering changing the annual event to a more casual affair,” Easton said. “The banquet last year was a great event held at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Randolph, with a full course meal by chef Michael Lawrence, but our attendance was down 25% from the year before. It’s our goal to see more people attend and if a simpler affair would bring our more support that is what we should try and do. With this year’s actual July 4th holiday on Wednesday should we consider other dates, such as Labor Day weekend, Tunbridge Fair weekend, or another time of the year?”

For more information, or to share their opinions, RUHS alumni can check in on Facebook, or contact Easton, Lawrence, or Jack Cowdrey.
