Thanksgiving is a family holiday in Vermont as elsewhere. But what if your family is spread to the four winds? Several of the towns in the White River Valley host a different kind of Thanksgiving— free meals for people who can't afford them or who have no nearby families to spend the holiday with. The most extraordinary tradition has been going on for years in South Royalton. Local residents and students at Vermont Law School alike pitch in to prepare donated food into Thanksgiving meals for more than 300 people. This year's meal will be served Thursday at the Chase Center at Vermont Law School.
