Fiddlesticks! No Fiddleheads On New Bridge Apparently, the new Randolph bridge won't sprout fiddleheads after all. The state engineers on site have told the town that the pier on the Cumberland Farms side of the bridge cannot take any more weight. The selectboard had been intrigued by a proposal from local sculptor Jim Sardonis to place eight-foot-high bronze fiddlheads on each of the four corners of the bridge, to add some distinction to the new structure. Manager Peter Butterfield told the selectboard last week Monday, however, that the idea wouldn't fit with the bridge's engineering. |
