Randolph Girls Lax Earn No. 1 Seed. With six games remaining in the regular season, the Randolph Gal lacrosse team Ghosts knew that keeping their perfect record wasn't going to be easy, and that every team was out to destroy it. Chelsea and U-32 did just that as they both handed the Gal Ghosts back-to-back losses in less than 24 hours. The Ghosts entered their final week with four games in five days, and knew they would have to overcome more than just exhaustion. On May 22, the team came out strong and defeated Montpelier, 11-1. The Ghosts then traveled to Lamoille on the 23rd where they defeated the Lancers with a score of 15-6. The following day they traveled to St. Johnsbury to face the only team they hadn't faced yet this season. The Ghosts took no second glance as they beat St. J with a score of 14-6. The final game of the season approached for the Ghosts, perhaps the most important game of the season, determining which seed they would be receiving. Randolph hosted Chelsea, who had previously given them their first loss of the season 10-3. The entire game was close and it came down to who wanted it most, and Randolph eked out the victory, 7-6. The Ghosts ended the regular season with a 13-2 record. This record was enough to give the team the number one seed in Division II, closely followed by Burr and Burton Academy and U-32. Quarterfinals Randolph hosted number nine-seeded Sharon Academy on Saturday, June 2 and with high tension between both teams, losing wasn't an option! Sharon came out and scored the first two goals of the game, throwing Randolph slightly off balance. The Gal Ghosts rallied back, scoring the next four goals, but Sharon came back with a rally of their own and a 5-4 lead at half time. The Ghosts weren't ready to come this far and then lose in the first round of the playoffs and it showed in the second half as they came out and defeated Sharon with a score of 10-6. Brynn Fabian paced Randolph with four goals and Erica Weber made 11 saves. The Ghosts hosted Chelsea in the Semifinals on Wednesday. The winner of that game goes on to face the winner of the Burr and Burton vs. U-32 game in the finals Saturday the 9th at UVM. |
