She'll Be Missed In Many Corners The absence of Hannah Jeffery leaves big spaces in so many areas in the greater Central Vermont community, from the Vermont Philharmonic with cello at her feet, the South Royalton green with saxophone in hand, the Lamson Howell Foundation with cultural generosity in mind, Mr. C's fish truck, especially in April when we both shared a great love for shad roe, and of course Chandler. Hannah was one of the several strong forces behind the wonderful renovation of Chandler Music Hall in the 1970's and served as one of its trustees long into the 1990's, where her opinions and enthusiasms counted. Her love of music is what endeared her to me- I don't think she ever missed a concert of the Central Vermont Chamber Music Festival and would also come by and enjoy the Thursday night open rehearsals, often telling me about her own musical background. Among probably many other things, Hannah was a musician, a worker, and quite a character. I was astounded to learn this week that she was even 85 years old. She will be missed in so many corners of our community. Janet Watton Randolph Center |
