Village Milking Its Cash Cows

Town government is supposed to provide a needed service to the people of their respective town. This concept appears to be lost on the Randolph selectboard.

We currently insist on maintaining a public works supervisor position. This position is currently costing a base salary of $50,000-plus a year. The job, for years, was handled by the road foreman and nothing has changed to warrant this figurehead position.

If the current town manager and road foreman are not up to the task of supervising our small town work force, then our current selection process needs to be addressed. Since I doubt the selectboard will rise to the occasion and, with the expansion of the police district about to be shoved down our throats, I submit a solution.

East Randolph and Randolph Center need to be afforded the opportunity to vote on whether or not to stay with Randolph since the merger years ago. East Randolph and the Center have become the sugar daddies for Randolph. Maybe drying up the money pool would be an incentive to engage in more fiscal responsibility. I know for a fact, that Randolph needs us more than we need them.
