Haskins & Crowley Attend HOBY Event
Rochester High School students Tanner Haskins and David Crowley recently attended the Vermont Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar.

David is the son of Mary Sue and Tim Crowley of Rochester and Tanner is the son of Patty and Vern Haskins of Pittsfield. They joined more than 90 other young leaders representing many high schools from throughout Vermont May 24-27 at St. Michael's College in Winooski.

HOBY Leadership Seminars bring together a select group of high school sophomores to interact with groups of distinguished leaders in business, government, education and the professions to discuss present and future issues. The goal is to provide youth with a stimulating forum for learning about critical issues, while broadening their understanding of their leadership potential and quest for self-development. HOBY leaders are also chal lenged to return to their communities to perform at least 100 hours of community service within 12 months following the Seminar.

Tanner and David noted that, "The seminar challenged us to think about the world around us and what we, as the future leaders, have to do to positively influence business, government, and society. We also better understand that our goals and dreams are important and that leaders have extreme responsi bilities in whatever walk of life they pursue."

The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program was established in 1958 by the popular actor Hugh O'Brian following a visit to Africa, where he was inspired by a meeting with Dr. Albert Schweitzer.
