RUHS Boys' Open Season With Just Nine Players

By Jill D. Montgomery

The Randolph boys varsity baseball team will start the 2007 season with the bare minimum of players. After losing seven players to graduation--Tim Grandy, Simon Kribstock, Calvin Russell, Matt MacAskill, Cameron Mack, Ben Alicia and Kirby Jedinak--the Guy Ghosts were already facing a rebuilding year, with small numbers and injuries further hampering them.

Returning seniors include four-year starter Mike Czok at the shortstop position and pitcher; seniors Cody Montgomery, pitcher, third base and outfield; Andy Bent, first baseman; and outfielder Russell Messier, who broke his right thumb early in the season. Thomas Jacobs, a junior and third-year starter will be catching as will junior David Maxfield, when he isn't at the third base spot.

New to the team this year are junior Kyle Connolly, who pitches and plays in the outfield, and sophomores Jon White, a first baseman and pitcher, and Dustin Brassard and Justin Messier who both play second base. White and Messier also play in the outfield.

The coaching staff is all returning this year with head coach Mike Czok, assistant coach John O'Donnell and J.V. coach, Brent Maxfield. Senior Melissa McIntyre will be the head manager again this season.

All of Randolph's scrimmages were cancelled this spring due to the crazy weather and the first two games of the 2007 season have been rescheduled as well. With very few days practicing outside so far this season, (three or four), the Guy Ghosts opened Tuesday versus Northfield away, always a tough challenge, and have their home opener Thursday versus the U-32 Raiders.
