RANDOLPH—Walter F. Chamberlain, 80, died Sunday morning, June 29, 2003 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
He was born July 9, 1922 in Bethel, the son of Frederick A. and Lena F. (Merrill) Chamberlain.
He attended Tunbridge, Chelsea and South Randolph schools. Following his education, he worked on a farm in Plainfield, and later on Grant Flint’s farm in Braintree. He also worked on bridge construction throughout New England for Clanchette Bros., Inc. of Pittsfield, Maine. He worked for the Killington Ski Area for 20 years, and most recently, worked for the Randolph Cemetery Dept., retiring in 1993.
He married Viola (Arbuckle) Salls on July 2, 1966 in Randolph. She died in 1999.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a member of the Randolph Baptist Fellowship.
Survivors include a son, Roger Chamberlain of Waterbury; two step-sons: Wayne Salls of Herndon, Va. and Edward Salls of Berlin; three step-daughters; Janice Salls of Randolph, Joyce Mills of Randolph and Lorraine Garrison of So. Royalton; two sisters; Olive Towne of Randolph and Maude Ducharme of Sharon; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by a brother, Willie Chamberlain; and a sister, Eleanor Gordon.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 2, at the Randolph Baptist Fellowship, Rte. 66, with Rev. Jerry Smith officiating.
Burial followed in Pleasant View Cemetery, Randolph.
Calling hours were held Tuesday evening at the Day Funeral Home.
