Randolph area viewers of the NBC Nightly News did a double-take Monday evening while watching a story about organic foods and the relationship with food prices generally. First on the screen were some very Vermont-looking Jersey cows, and suddenly, there was a familiar face—that of Regina Beidler, who farms organically in Randolph Center with her husband Brent. The Jersey cows, pictured crossing a road, were also the Beidlers’ animals, and to be truthful, they spent more time on the screen than did Regina. Despite the fact that the NBC producer and cameraman spent two hours at the Beidlers’ farm, and the fact that both Brent and Regina are very active in dairy associations, Regina’s on-air comments were limited to a very quick clip of "half a sentence" during which she confirmed that grain prices were going up. It wasn’t particularly big news, and Regina admitted to being a bit disappointed at the brief amount of time given the organic dairy industry—which is flourishing despite the national concern for food prices. She told The Herald, however, that the NBC crew were very nice folks and seemed to enjoy the farm. |
