Raffle Winner Gets Thanks to an offer of a new set of Red Sox tickets from the original holders, the winners of a raffle that went unexpectedly awry will be able to go to a game, after all. Randolph Union High School Principal John Holmes late last week reported the happy resolution of an awkward situation that arose in Boston July 26, when the winner of the Spanish Club’s raffle for four BoSox tickets arrived at Fenway, with three guests, only to be advised the tickets were not valid. The tickets had been donated to the club for the raffle by 42-year-old Michael Jacques of Randolph Center. Jacques is presently being held in prison without bail on a federal kidnapping charge, related to the murder of his 12-year-old niece, Brooke Bennett. (See separate article for case update.) According to Holmes, it turns out that the party who had provided tickets to Jacques—not his employer, as previously thought—had gotten re-issued tickets and gone to the game, on the assumption that Jacques wouldn’t be going and unaware of the raffle. That person agreed to offer another set of tickets available, after being advised of the situation. The tale’s resolution comes with another piece of good community news: Holmes noted that, in response to last week’s article about the problem, the Ted Green Ford dealership in Stockbridge called him immediately and indicated the business "was willing to spring for tickets," for the raffle winner. |
