VTC Gets DRB Okay
For ‘Burn Building’
By Sandy Vondrasek

At its July 29 hearing, the Randolph Development Review Board approved Vermont Technical College’s application to build a "fire simulation training facility," but asked the operators of a Randolph Center cell tower to come back next month with more information about a proposal to add panel antennae.

The DRB is just one of several permitting stops for the applicants, as both the proposed burn facility and tower additions both require full Act 250 review.

The DRB gave the VTC project site plan and local Act 250 approval; the latter includes a local review of the project’s impact on local schools and municipal services, and its conformance with the town plan.

According to the application, VTC proposes to construct the 1350-square-foot building on property it owns behind the Langevin House on Furnace Road. VTC was notified this winter that it was granted $406,000 in federal funds for the project.

The two-story building will be used to train students the college’s new fire sciences program, as well as firefighters statewide.

Tower Antennae

Light Tower Wireless, LLC and Centerline Communication, LLC had requested approval to add six panel antennae, each 72-by-13-inches, to its Rand Road tower. According to Zoning Administrator Mardee Sanchez, the DRB asked the applicants to return with information on what kinds of equipment is presently on the tower; which cell providers it serves; and what kinds of permits are presently in effect.

The project needs site plan and local Act 250 review.

Sub-divisions

Also on Tuesday, the DRB approved three sub-division requests:

• A five-lot sub-division of a 26.7-acre lot on Route 66, across from the ClearSource plant. Property owner is "Dirt Angels, Inc." with Paul Rea agent for the owner.

• A two-lot sub-division, to carve out a 5.6-acre lot out of a 200-plus acre lot p

off Boudro Road, owned by David Silloway.

• A two-lot sub-division on North Randlph Road, requested by Jonothan, Jeremy, and Jennifer Rilling.
