Beth O. Bagley

RANDOLPH—Beth Olivia Bagley, 87, formerly of Hardwick, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at her residence.

She was born September 8, 1920 in Richford, the daughter of the late Andrew and Ina (Laplant) McAllister. She attended Richford public schools.

She married Gerald Charles Bagley in East Montpelier August 17, 1945. She made her home in Hardwick for more than 61 years.

In her earlier years, she cared for young children in Boston. She later was employed at the North Montpelier Woolen Mills. Following her marriage, she stayed at home to care for her children. As her children grew, she continued providing child care in her home for several years.

She attended the United Church of Hardwick and was a member of the Women’s Fellowship Circle #8 of that church. She enjoyed sewing, reading, walking and visiting with her neighbors and friends. In 2006, she moved to Randolph to be near her daughter.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Hodgdon of Randolph; three sons: Charles Bagley of Waterboro, Maine, Stuart Bagley of Woodbury, and Gary Bagley of Morrisville; eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; a sister, Cindy Fournier of Brattleboro; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald, in 1987; as well as a great-grandson; and three sisters: Jean Wise, June Johnson and Grace Benson

Graveside services were held Monday, July 14 at the Main Street Cemetery in Hardwick. The Rev. Judy Waible of the United Church of Hardwick officiated.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Hardwick Fire Department, P.O. Box 1279, Hardwick, Vt. 05843.

Arrangements are under the direction of Dian R. Holcomb of Northern Vermont Funeral Service at 60 Elm Street in Hardwick.
