Rep. Haas Seeks Re-election

For Third Term in Vt. House

Rep. Sandy Haas announced this week that she is running for re-election to the Vermont House of Representatives in the Windsor-Rutland 2 district that includes Bethel, Rochester, Stockbridge and Pittsfield.

A Rochester resident, Haas has served for two terms and sits on the House Human Services and joint Corrections Oversight committees.

"I really enjoy the collaborative method used in the Vermont House and find that my legal background, coupled with my 25+ years of working with community groups, allows me to make a real contribution to the legislative process," says Haas, who is looking forward to a third term.

"Given the tightening of the Vermont economy, the uncertainty of our energy future, and high-profile crises, like the recent Randolph tragedy, we will all need to put our heads together to find creative solutions and craft effective policies to guide the state going forward."

A Rochester resident since 1980, Haas had her own law practice until 2005 and continues to operate The New Homestead Bed & Breakfast with partner David Marmor. She has undergraduate and law degrees from the University of California at Berkeley.

Haas’ volunteer experience in the community includes the Valley Rescue Squad, the board of the Clara Martin Center (16 years), over 20 years with the White River Valley Players, and 25 years on the Rochester Planning Commission, which she currently chairs.

Haas will have at least one challenger. Henry Holmes of Bethel announced earlier that he will run as an independent.
