Cards Would Help
Searles Badly Burned
In July 4 Accident

A former Randolph man, lying in the Burn Unit at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, would benefit greatly from cards and letters from acquaintances, according to Betty Ferris, his sister, who lives in Brookfield.

Mike Searles was badly hurt on the Fourth of July at his home in Quechee. He was starting a fire for roasting hot dogs and "something went wrong and it blew up," according to Ferris.

He suffered third degree burns over 60% of his body from head to toe, she said, and will be in the hospital for one to two more months, followed by months of at-home therapy.

He’s expected to be out of work for at least a year, Ferris said.

Searles, she said, has a wife and two sons at his Quechee home and parents who live in Stockbridge. He attended schools in South Royalton and Randolph, and raced street stock cars at the Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford.

"The nurses said that sending my brother cards for them to read to him would be very helpful toward his healing," his sister said.

Cards can be sent to: Attn Mike Searles, 7D Room 75, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, 75 Francis Street, Boston 02115.

In addition, a Searles Family Fund has been set up at the Upper Valley Community Credit Union for donations to the family. That address is P.O. Box 514, Lebanon, N.H. 03766
