Hospital Supports
Reiki Practice

Thank you for printing Shari McLaughlin’s article on my work with Reiki ("Stockbridge Woman Certified As Reiki Master Teacher", June 12, 2008). My job as president of the Vermont Reiki Association is to help educate the public about Reiki. What better way than an article in our local paper?

The text excerpted from the original article was missing information regarding the Reiki program at Gifford Medical Center. There are currently six Reiki practitioners volunteering their time every week to bring Reiki to patients at Gifford. Reiki helps to relax the patients, assisting them in their recovery from surgery, childbirth and various other health issues. We work from the Birthing Center to the Menig unit and the Garden Room. Our work has been well received from patients and staff. This is one of the most comprehensive Reiki programs in the state. Gifford should be commended as it is on the cutting edge in offering this complimentary modality. Reiki programs in larger facilities are not so easily run.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank those at Gifford who have supported our work, namely, Dr. Ella Marie Russo-DeMara, Linda Minsinger, RN and Pam Fornier., RN. I think I can speak for the entire Reiki group when I say that the staff has been very professional, but, also warm and supportive. Thanks to all at Gifford who have helped in the success of the Reiki program!
