Gaysville Artist’s Paintings
Now at Duckworth Museum

Gaysville artists Laura Finn will be featured in the "First Solo" exhibition of guest artists in Gallery II at the Aidron Duckworth Art Museum on Bean Road in Meriden, N.H. The show will open Saturday, July 12 with a public reception from 3-6 p.m.

A former student of Duckworth’s, Finn has been drawing, painting and sculpting for over 30 years. As a dyer and weaver initially, the importance of color was apparent early on in her career. She began studying with Duckworth in 1978, focusing on drawing, and working entirely in black and white for several years. She later studied color theory with him. In 1986, she met James Gahagan at the Vermont Studio Center and continued to study painting with him until his death in 1999.

Finn’s work on display will consist of large abstract oil paintings employing color and form to create movement and express a search for the meaning in life.

"Art is a way to explore the stories within us," Finn said.

"Sculpture on the Grounds," with the work of Ria Blaas and Antoinette Jacobson, both of Norwich, continues through the remainder of the season until October 26. The museum also continues with "Exhibition XI – Color, Form and Commentary" which opened May 3 and runs through July 27.

The Museum holds over 1250 works by Duckworth in a public charitable trust. Since opening in October 2002, 10 chronological shows have surveyed the collection.

Regular visiting times are Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., or by special appointment. There is no admission charge, and the building is accessible by a ramp at the side door. For more information call 603-469-3444.
