PITTSFIELD—Dale R. Merrill, 60, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born July 8, 1947 in Rutland, the son of Clifton and Gladys (Pfenning) Merrill. He attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Whitcomb High School in Bethel in 1965. He married Louise White September 30, 1978 in Bethel. He worked as a logger, both on his own and with his father. He also owned and operated #9 Lake Outfitters, a hunting lodge in Bridgewater, Maine, where he was a registered Maine Guide. In earlier years, he served with the Vermont National Guard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing softball, and was a N.Y. Yankees fan. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Louise Merrill of Pittsfield; a son Justin Merrill of McMinnville, Ore.; a daughter, Ashlee Merrill of Stockbridge; his mother and step-father, Gladys and Alexander Cameron of Woodstock; a sister, Brenda Schoenhardt of Penfield, N.Y.; and three granddaughters, Lily, Megan and Cady. He was predeceased by his father. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 29, at the United Church of Bethel. Pastor Thomas Harty officiated. Private burial followed at the Pittsfield Village Cemetery. Pall bearers were Justin Merrill, Joe Fuster, Ray Colton, Chuck Adams, Doug Sanders, Mark Pelletier, Tom Keefe and Dale McDonnell.
