Counterfeit Money
Turns Up in Bethel

Following a recent report of counterfeit money being used at a local business this weekend, state police are seeking public assistance "in catching all who may be involved with this criminal matter."

The money was reportedly tendered Saturday night at the Bethel Depot, according to police reports.

"Local businesses should take a second look at money during all business transactions to ensure that they are in fact receiving legal American currency," Trooper Gary Salvatore said this week.

Salvatore noted that the illegal currency circulated recently is relatively easy to spot, as it "does not have proper seals, bar codes, and in some cases the currency is not evenly cut."

Anyone who has any suspicion that counterfeit money is being used is urged to contact state police immediately, at 234-9933.
