Randolph’s Chandler Music Hall Alive with ‘The Sound of Music!’ One hundred and twenty students from all corners of Central Vermont have gathered at Chandler Music Hall in Randolph for an intensive three-week theater experience. They are preparing for performances of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s "The Sound of Music" to be presented Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 3, 4, and 5 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 6 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available weekdays between 3-6 p.m. at the Chandler box office or by calling 728-9878 during these same hours. Charlie McMeekin, who is celebrating his 10th year as director for this annual summer youth musical, is pleased to be teamed with Marjorie Drysdale as musical director and band conductor, and Kim Nowlan as assistant director and choreographer. Lead cast members include Sarabeth Hamberlin of Middlebury as Maria and Hanover’s Jonah Kasper as Captain von Trapp. The von Trapp children will be played by Molly Shimko (Quechee), Abe Doughty (Rochester), Lydia Roe (West Brookfield), Anna Abrams (Montpelier), Nathan Marshall (Chelsea), Justine Waddell (Randolph) and Anais Dutton (Chelsea). Rochester’s Christine Meagher will portray the Mother Abbess, supported by a cast of nuns that includes Zoe Gaby Smith (Brookfield), Sarah Wolfe (Strafford), Addie Chris (West Hartford), Fae Blackmer (Northfield), Hannah Coxon (Sharon) and Bekah Woodin (Sharon). Elsa will be played by Randolph’s Rachel Dube, with Max Redman from Hanover as Max. RES music teacher Marta Borgstrom is the pianist and recent Wagner graduate Emily Crosby returns as stage manager. Artist Nina Gaby of Brookfield is the costume director. A teen technical team is working daily behind the scenes, under the guidance of Chandler’s technical director Mimi Burstein, set director Greg Crawford, and lighting designer Jessica LaRoque. Chandler technical alumni Tanner Lake, Joe Gasque and Nicole Tucker have returned to share their expertise. Scores of parents, family and community members have volunteered to support this production with help in such areas as set construction, set design, costuming, ticket sales, make-up, food donations and ushering. ____________ |
