Arthur Washburn

RANDOLPH — Arthur C. Washburn, 89, died Friday morning, June 6, 2008 at his home.

He was born June 29, 1918 in Randolph, the son of Charles and Jennie (Robinson) Washburn. A lifetime Randolph resident, he was married on December 26, 1955 to Isabelle Whitehill, who died in 1973.

He operated a farm on Hebard Hill Road, and had been a carpenter. He worked for the Vermont State Fish Hatchery in Roxbury for 25 years, before retiring in 1988. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports (especially baseball), and was still an active woodcutter. He was a member of the Green Mountain Gospel Chapel.

Survivors include his stepsons, Albert Wood and his wife Rebecca of Randolph, and Robert Wood of Fairhaven; a sister, Nellie Ferris of Brookfield; three grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his step-son, Harvey Wood.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, June 10 at the Green Mountain Gospel Chapel, with Rev. Ronald E. Rilling, officiating. Sandra Rilling was the organist. The congregation sang, "Blessed Assurance," "Great is Thy Faithfulness," and "When We All Get to Heaven." Jim Mather read the scripture lesson. Morris, David, and Andy Howard sang "This World Is Not My Home," and "What a Day." Albee and Darron Wood led a time of sharing memories. Pastor Ron gave the message, and joined Sandra Rilling in singing "Near to the Heart of God," which he accompanied on guitar.

Burial followed at Pleasant View Cemetery. Pallbearers were Darron Wood, Albee Wood, Chuck Ferris, Jim Mather, Charlie Russell, and David Fordham. A reception followed in the church fellowship hall.
