News of Area Students Maximilian J. Dougherty of Pittsfield graduated from Clarkson University in Pottsdam, N.Y., with a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering and mechanical engineering. Graham Bostrom, son of Jim Bostrom of Rockville Md., and grandson of Charlene and Ken Bostrom of Bethel, took his multi-engine FAA commercial check in Battle Creek, Mich., where he is a flight student at Western Michigan University. Nathaniel Randolph Hollis, who graduated from Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. with a degree in political science, was recognized as a community scholar and received a student life award as a resident advisor. He served as captain of the Wheaton Emergency Response Team and vice chair of the Wheaton Student Hearing Board. His grandmother, Marion Jennings Hollis of Randolph, attended the graduation festivities along with his parents, Nicholas and Patricia Hollis of Washington D.C. Sarabeth Hamberlin, a junior at Middlebury Union High School, recently placed second in the Vermont All State Music Festival Vocal Scholarship Competition. The judges awarded her a monetary scholarship in recognition of her talents and efforts. She studies voice with Beth Thompson, is a member of the MUHS select vocal ensemble and the jazz band, and is currently preparing for the role of Maria Von Trapp for performances of "The Sound of Music" at Chandler Music Hall in Randolph July 3-6. Ashley Boule of Bethel, was named to the Dean's List at Champlain College in Burlington, where she is an accounting major. David Harvie Porter, son of Harvie and Susan Porter of Randolph, graduated cum laude from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, and a minor in electrical engineering. He was also inducted into the Sphinx Head Society, a senior honorary organization at Cornell. Jen Linton, a graduate of Randolph Union High School and the daughter of Gretchen and Ted Linton of Randolph, received the Amy Bess Williams Miller Scholarship at Southern Vermont College, where she is a member of the Japanese Culture and Anime Club. Gretchen Grote, daughter of Peggy and Glenn Grote of South Royalton, has made the Dean's List at Southern N.H. University for the spring semester. She is a sports management major and will do a summer internship at St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. Two RUHS students, Lianna Reed, the daughter of Paul Reed and Alex Halasz, and Katie Jickling, the daughter of Jon Jickling and Laura Rochat, recently attended the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Seminar at St. Michael’s College in Colchester. Emily Crosby of Randolph, received the Theater Award for Design Technology and Management from Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y. A theater and speech major and a member of the Dean's List, she served as stage manager for at least four shows on campus. On May 16, she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree, cum laude. ____________ |
