Bert Snow Still Remembered Bert Snow is remembered for many things—his longtime station as Memorial Day speaker, his post as the Driver’s Ed. teacher, and his participation and funding of the annual fishing trip named after him. Although Mr. Snow passed away, he continued to support the trip through a fund that he left expressly for that purpose, and, as Jeff Thomas, an organizer of this year’s trip said, "Bert was looking down on us this year." This year’s trip began at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, when 20 students, their families, and some of the staff from the South Royalton School, boarded the bus for Hampton Beach, where the boat would be leaving harbor at 8 a.m. The Smith and Gilmore Deep Sea Fishing Co. brought them 12 miles out, where the derby began with Richard Densmore, who got the first catch of the day. Marshall Distel reeled in the largest fish at 18 lbs., and took first place; with Jason Stride coming in second with a 17 lb. cod. Overall, the day was successful, as everyone but three out of the 31 participants caught at least one cod or haddock to bring home with them. ____________ |
