Nate Cleveland is enjoying his new job as the administrative assistant in Royalton’s Selectboard office.

Cleveland, who grew up in Wilder, graduated from Hartford High School, and then from UVM in 2004 with bachelor’s degree in community development and applied economics, with a minor in small business management. Prior to taking on his present duties, he worked at his family’s alpaca farm on Peth Road in Braintree, and also worked for a painting contractor out of Montpelier.

"Basically, what I do is act as a liaison between the citizens of Royalton and the selectboard," Cleveland explained. "I also coordinate road projects, such as the current Gilman Road project. In fact, that’s been my major concentration since I came on board, because the slide that damaged the road happened the weekend before I started."

Cleveland also issues permits, helps coordinate that process and answers questions asked by citizens who stop by the office. His office hours are 8 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

"I just finished my first grant application and I’ve been enjoying exploring different ways to get funding for town projects," Cleveland added. "I’m also enjoying all the interaction with the people here. It’s been quite a learning curve and people have been very helpful and welcoming."
