Sounding Joy! To Sing

"Broadway Favorites"

Sounding Joy! and the Sounding Joy! Youth chorus will entertain young and old alike with a rousing program of Broadway favorites this Sunday, June 18 at 4 pm at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church on Hebard Hill in Randolph.

"We love singing in this new space!" said director Marjorie Drysdale. "Not only is it visually beautiful, but the acoustics are outstanding!"

A free-will offering will be taken to benefit the children’s music school of Mirgorod, Ukraine, Randolph’s sister city. This year marks the tenth anniversary of Randolph’s relationship with this city, established by the Randolph Rotary Club in 1998.

Sounding Joy! will intersperse choral medleys from "Showboat," "Fiddler on the Roof, " and "Camelot" with solos and duets representing some of the best-loved tunes from musical theater.

The Youth Choir will sing excerpts from "The Sound of Music," which will serve as a "preview of coming attractions," since this is the show that area youth from some 15 central Vermont towns will produce this July at Chandler Music Hall. Featured youth soloists will be Sophia Dwinell and Katarina Knoff.

Later this month, Marjorie and Dick Drysdale, Dr. Milton Fowler, Sonny Holt, and Randolph’s former town manager, Gwen Hallsmith, will travel to Mirgorod to celebrate ten years of friendship. While there, Marjorie Drysdale will present a gift of support, raised at this May 18 event, to the music school there.
