The Rockets played South Royalton at home on Thursday, getting their first defeat, losing 9-3. The Rochester girls knew South Royalton, being Division III, were going to play a tough game. SoRo's first batter got on base by an error in the field, followed by Megan Pratt pitching the first strikeout of the game. SoRo then had two base hits, allowing two runs to score. When the Rockets got up to bat, it was a quick "3-up, 3-down" and the first inning was over. The Rockets had a tough time on defense in the second, allowing three people home by two errors. Logan Russell's triple to left also helped SoRo get more runs home. When the Rockets got back up to bat, M. Pratt started it with a homerun, but the inning ended quickly after that, with one strikeout and two plays to first by SoRo's defense. Rochester didn’t get another good hit until the seventh inning when M. Pratt got on again by an error from SoRo's infield. Lauren Pratt followed with a hit far into left field sending M. Pratt home and landing herself at second. The Rockets needed six more runs to tie the game but failed as SoRo made two more good plays to first, getting the last two outs of the game. The game ended 9-3. SoRo's pitcher, Emily Brock, and Rockets’ pitcher, Pratt, had five strikeouts each. Doubleheader @ T’field Rochester traveled to Twinfield to play a doubleheader on May 3 with mixed results, losing the first game 11-2 and winning the second game 16-5. Throughout the first game the Rockets had a hard time hitting the ball to the open spaces; almost every hit went directly to one of Twinfield's players. Twinfield had very good defense, making no errors in the field all game. The first Rockets’ player to get on base was Alicia Waite by a wild pitch. Daley Crowley started her season off with a triple up the right field foul line, getting Waite home for their first run in. In the second and third innings, Twinfield had crucial hits, making sure no one was left on base at the end of each inning. They had two base hits, a double, and a triple making the score 8-2 going into the fourth inning. The score didn't get closer as Twinfield kept making contact with the ball. They scored three more runs and didn't let up in the field. The final score was 11-2. Second Game Once again, in the second game, the Rockets were a whole different team. It didn't seem so in the first couple of innings, but by the third inning, the Rockets had come to life. The score coming into the third inning was 4-2, Twinfield ahead. The Rockets’ top of the order started getting serious as all three managed to get home. Base hits by Miranda Shepard, Desiree Bourassa, and Samantha Mishkit tied the score 5-5 going into the fourth. When Bourassa got up to bat again, the bases were loaded. She didn't let the pressure get to her and got another base hit sending one more girl home. Mishkit got up to bat getting a double, and after a throwing error by Twinfield, got to third and three girls scored. The inning ended quickly after that as Twinfield caught two fly balls at third and first. After batting around the order in the fifth, Rochester got six more runs in. Because Twinfield was the home team, they had the last at bats, but it was nothing the Rockets couldn't handle. Rochester’s defense made sure no Twinfield players made it home. Since the first game went through the seventh inning, both coaches agreed beforehand that the second game would end in the fifth. The game ended 16-5, Rockets with the victory. ____________ |
