I have just read the letter written by W.B. Fisk and published in the May 6 Valley News. That letter was stimulated by a front-page photo of two South Royalton women lovingly living out their civil union. He or she says that "the majority of the population of this state (Vermont) opposes this defiant life style." I don’t know how he arrives at his knowledge of the feelings of "the majority" of Vermonters. I am a Vermonter; I was born and raised here. As for my feelings, I applaud the desire of these two women, who obviously love each other, to want to make a legal commitment to share their lives as a couple. I saw the front page photograph which W.B. Fisk found so disgusting. In that photo I did not see any sign of a "defiant life style." What I saw were two people who love each other and are brave enough to declare their love openly. To Mr. or Mrs. or Miss Fisk I point out that our state legislature does have "backbone." That backbone enabled them to pass the civil unions law and to now consider legalizing same sex marriage. I find it interesting that W.B. Fisk, she or he, in contrast, does not appear to have the courage to state his or her full name when writing such a critical letter for print. As for me, love between two adults should always be considered sacred in origin. As such, that love should be celebrated before the Divine Creator of all that is loving and beautiful.
