RUHS Boys Lax Starts Off Season By Dave Cooch Randolph Boys Lacrosse has played their first three games this season, and have come out winning one and losing two. Over these three games Randolph has put in 26 goals, but conceded 39. The Hartford Game Randolph traveled to Hartford on Saturday the 19th to face a strong opponent. The Ghosts kept pace early on with the attacking line of senior David Whitlock, sophomores Alex Green and Jay Bianco keeping possession along with Randolph’s midi lines. The game was kept in Randolph’s attacking area for much of the first half, but they found that their defense was not up to par. In the second half Randolph’s loss of possession continued to lead to Hartford goals, and the game was eventually lost 14-6. The Lamoille Game Randolph faced another talented opponent in an away game to Lamoille on Wednesday the 23rd. Randolph’s offense was playing well again, keeping the ball, and putting it in the back of the net. The Ghosts maintained a majority of the possessions, and were up 2-0 near the end of the first. But Lamoille came right back with a goal, followed by a man-up goal, and another just before the end of the quarter to put them ahead 3-2. Lamoille put Randolph through their paces for the next two quarters, and build up a 10-3 lead. The Ghosts picked it up for the final quarter, and were able to more than double their tally to seven goals, but it wasn’t enough, as Lamoille went ahead to win 12-7. The Vergennes Game Randolph traveled to Vergennes searching for their first win, and were able to come out victorious thanks to a strong offensive showing. Randolph was once again carried by offensive possession and a strong effort in ground balls. Out and running from the start, Randolph had built up a second-quarter lead of 8-3, thanks to goals from Whitlock and Green. Vergennes clawed its way back into the game goal by goal, and by the third was only down by two, 10-8. As the game fell into the dying minutes, Vergennes, down 12-10, put in a long-distance shot. Matt Simpson won a crucial face-off, and Randolph possessed the ball until the final seconds when Green scored his seventh goal of the game off a low-angle shot. The game ended 13-11 Randolph, with seven goals from Alex Green, three from Whitlock, two from Cody Tabor, and one from Matt Dezan. Randolph plays U-32 away today, May 1, and Lamoille at home on Saturday, May 3, at 4 p.m., for their home-game opener. They would appreciate your support. ____________ |
