Spend Those Checks

Close to Home

In the next few weeks many of us will receive checks varying from $300 to $1200 from the Internal Revenue Service.

These funds are intended to stimulate the economy. The question, however, is how to do that effectively in our area.

If we spend the dollar locally with a locally owned business, more of that dollar is likely stay here to be spent again. In one economic study showing the local buying power between a dollar spent at Borders and a dollar spent at a locally owned bookstore, three times more of that dollar stayed in the local economy when it was spent at the locally owned store.

So I ask you, as a consumer, to take a moment to consider your choices when your check arrives and, if possible, to spend it locally.
