Mountain Folkus:
This Week in Music

May Day has crept quietly into our rapidly greening hills and valleys, bringing with it a variety of folk traditions including the maypole, Green Up Day, International Workers Day and Pete Seeger's 89th birthday.

One of the fruits of Pete's seed sowing is the Clearwater Festival, to be held at Croton, NY on the Hudson River on June 20 and 21 (www.clearwater.org). Featured performers this summer include Cheryl Wheeler, The Strangelings, R. Carlos Nakai, The Skatalites and, naturally, Pete.

Speaking of summer festivals, the Crossroads Summerfest Tour kicks off on the radio on Sunday, May 18, with a free pair of all-fest tickets to the upcoming "Roots on the River Festival" being held in Bellows Falls from June 5-8. Featured performers include the omnipresent Fred Eaglesmith and Americana newcomer, Eilen Jewell. The Crossroads FolkRadio program is heard locally every Sunday from 6-10AM on the Point on 103.1 or 104.7FM.

The SummerFest Tour will stay in tune through the Tunbridge World's Fair featuring updates and listener comp tickets to many New England folk festivals including the North Fork Bluegrass Festival, the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, the Valley Stage Festival and the New World Festival right here in Randolph.

Closer on the time/space continuum are some worthy performances this weekend at Chandler from Le Grand Derangement (Friday) and for bluegrass bliss-seekers, Banjo Dan & the Mid-nite Plowboys (Saturday). The following Saturday, May 10th, MountainFolk welcomes Texas-based troubador, Eliza Gilkyson, to the Tunbridge Town Hall.
