Work Will Be Performed

The Vermont MIDI Project has just selected 19 musical compositions to be performed at "Opus 16," a concert to be held at Chandler Center on Wednesday, April 30.

These works involve 19 students from elementary age through high school in Vermont as well as one from George Mason High School in Virginia. Of special note to Randolph area residents is that three of the pieces were composed by students at Randolph Union High School: Simon Fink, whose work, "Storms," is written for string quartet; Holly Mugford, who wrote "Shadows on the Water" for string trio; and Katie Yawney, whose "Never Enough Time!" is written for woodwind quartet.

The Vermont MIDI Project helps students compose through the use of technology in their classrooms. Over 7,000 students in 37 schools throughout the state participate, along with students from other states as far away as Illinois. For months professional composers have been mentoring Vermont students from grades 4-12 using the Vermont MIDI Project’s password protected website. The April 30 concert at Chamber Music Hall will begin at 6:30 p.m. The public can obtain tickets at the door.
