Elvah Robson HANCOCK—Elvah Marie Abbott Robson, 91, of Rochester, N.Y. and Hancock, died peacefully February 12, 2008 in Dublin, Ohio. She was born on August 8, 1916 in Babylon, N.Y., the youngest child of Harold L. Abbott and Alice Hubbell Abbott. The family moved to Westmoreland, N.Y. where she attended Westmoreland schools. Her father died of tuberculosis when she was five years old. While attending Westmoreland High School, she met her future husband, Wylie Schall Robson, and starred with him in the operetta "Love Pirates of Hawaii." She was a talented athlete in high school and at Cortland Normal School where she obtained her teaching degree. She married Wylie Robson in Westmoreland on July 7, 1940. She raised their four children and managed their six coast-to-coast moves, and the resulting eight different homes as her husband rose in the ranks of the Eastman Kodak Company. She was known as a talented seamstress and cook and enjoyed making her home a welcoming haven for her family and friends. She had a strong faith and was always involved and active in her church. For the last 52 years of her life her church home was Asbury First United Methodist Church in Rochester, N.Y., where she sang in the choir, served as a trustee, was an active member of the Fifty Plus Class and served on many committees. She was a long-time member of the Sibley chapter of the YWCA. Her Vermont church home was the Federated Church of Rochester. In retirement, she and her husband loved to travel in their RV, ski, and visit with family and friends. They loved to return to the Hancock home, which the family constructed, where their ever-growing family could gather, sing around the campfire and enjoy her cooking. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 67 years, by her parents, and by her brothers, Curtis and Marshall. Survivors include her four children and spouses: Bobbie and Tom Brennan of Dublin, Ohio; Dick and Dorothy Robson of Hancock; Bill and Anne Robson of Malvern, Penna.; and Sue and Vic Ribaudo of New York, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. There will be a memorial service Saturday, April 12 at 2 p.m. at Asbury First United Methodist Church in Rochester, N.Y., and another at her home in Hancock on Saturday, July 5 (time to be announced). Memorial gifts may be sent to Asbury First United Methodist Church, 1050 East Avenue, Rochester, N.Y. 14607. ____________ |
