The Lunch Ladies! The lunches at Whitcomb Jr/Sr High School are a huge part of my day. I look forward to having lunch with my pals and eating the delicious food they provide. The lunch ladies themselves are very kind and love to hear about the students’ input. They are there because they love to cook and enjoy being with all the kids, kindergarten to twelfth grade. Many times I walk into the cafeteria after getting to school and there are muffins or a breakfast sandwich that the lunch ladies made especially for the high school students. The lunch ladies make us food because they enjoy making it to make people happy. Once every day I stop in to get my mid-morning snack. I love going in to chat with the lunch ladies and sniff the delicious smells wafting through the school. A couple days a week a caterer comes in and volunteers in the kitchen. I had the best tomato soup the other day because Willy B. and the lunch ladies had combined their efforts to make a new soup. The head cook, Mrs. Gilderdale, uses a recipe that my mother gave to her for making corn chowder. Yes, there are some changes, but it is as yummy as when my mom makes it at home. I believe that Mrs. G., Mrs. Hill, Mrs. Rogler, and Willy B. all deserve the towns’ and students’ thanks for making the cafeteria of the school one of the most pleasant places to be.
