A break-in at the Randolph Town Garage last weekend resulted in the theft of $10,000 worth of tools, state police said. Town Manager Peter Butterfield said that he received a call from Randolph Center Fire Chief Al Floyd on Easter Sunday morning. Floyd had been notified by resident Jim Tucker, who had noticed a broken window and an open door at the Rand Road garage. Investigation showed that the burglar or burglars had entered through the window, first pulling out steel bars that guarded against entry. Butterfield said that numerous small and mid-sized tools had been taken, including wrench sets and drill sets and a power grinder. The town is insured for the loss except for a $500 deductible, he said. No damage was incurred except for the window. The town will be looking anew at the security of the garage, he added. Tpr. Randy Brouillard of the State Police, who investigated, said there is no suspect at present. He asked anyone with information to contact the Royalton barracks at 234-9933. Asked if a truck or van would have been needed to cart away the stolen items, he said probably not, as the loot would have fit into the back seat of a car. |
