Chamber Fest Musicians Members of the Central Vermont Chamber Music Festival will make their annual early spring pilgrimage to Randolph on Sunday, March 30 at the Three Stallion Inn. Their concert, which is free and open to the public, begins at 3 p.m. in Morgan's Pub. The concert, "Music for the Spring for String Quartet and More..." includes Henry Purcell's Fantasia Upon One Note, Josef Haydn's String Quartet Opus 17 No. 5, and the lovely but seldom heard "Crisantemi" composed for string quartet by Giacomo Puccini. Also on the program, in honor of Leroy Anderson's 100th anniversary, are three favorites: Jazz Pizzicato, The Syncopated Clock, and The Typewriter. Members of the ensemble for this program are violinists Kathryn Caswell and Basia Danilow, violist Kevin Roy, cellist Peter Sanders, and percussionist and expert typist, Sue Ellen Colgan-Borror. Each of these musicians is familiar to the audiences of the Central Vermont Chamber Music Festival which is held for two weeks each August at Chandler, and all have performing careers in the New York metropolitan area. Sanders, founder and music director of the Festival is a member of the New York City Ballet Orchestra. Caswell performs with the Metropolitan Opera and is a founding member of the Primavera String Quartet. Danilow performs regularly with the Orchestra of St. Luke's and the Metropolitan Opera. Roy is the violist for the Broadway production of "Wicked" and a busy freelance artist. Colgan-Borror is a music educator as well as a violinist with the New York City Ballet Orchestra. RUHS Concerts Outreach to the youth is a very important aspect of the Central Vermont Chamber Music Festival. On Monday, March 31, the ensemble will pay a visit to Randolph Union High School. In separate assemblies for the junior high and the high school students, CVCMF musicians will perform "a Grand Zoo-ilogical Treat," the well loved Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens. The piece will be conducted by Colgan-Borror, CVCMF’s director of education and outreach. The quartet will be joined by Nancy McDill, a pianist of the New York City Ballet and the School of American Ballet, plus special guests, RUHS music teacher Josh Stumpff playing the cuckoo, along with narrator, Braintree's own Charlie McMeekin.
