Rock Quarry Hearing
Resumes March 25
By Sandy Vondrasek

Additional information from two noise experts and traffic data from two sources will be among the information presented next Tuesday night, as the Randolph Development Review Board resumes its reviews of a proposed rock quarry in Randolph Center.

The proposal by Sprague Farms, LLC, for a ledge extraction quarry on the west side of Ridge Road, was first presented to the DRB in October. The hearing next Tuesday, March 25, follows continuation hearings in January and February, each of which were about two hours long.

Randolph Zoning Administrator Mardee Sanchez said this week that testimony on traffic issues will be presented by the Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission, and by Ridge Road residents, who conducted their own traffic count.

The DRB has already heard testimony from two noise experts, one retained by Sprague Farms LLC (in January) and one by neighbors opposed to the quarry (in February.) There will be more information from both experts at next Tuesday’s hearing, Sanchez said.

In addition to the quarry continuation, the DRB will review Catherine Bacon’s application for a variance and site plan review for a specialty foods company at 17 Weston Street.

The March 25 hearing, at the Langevin House conference center in Randolph Center, begins at 7 p.m.

Two Permits

Sanchez said that the DRB has rendered decisions on two applications it reviewed last month: Kevin Blakeman’s proposal to build a planned unit housing development on his property on Sunset Hill Road, and Sherri McPhetres’ request to operate a real estate office in a portion of a residence at 6 Central Street.

Those decisions, however, will not be made public until signed by DRB members, which will probably occur next Tuesday.
