Rochester Needs
Cell Technology

I applaud the Rochester Federated Church for making the tough decision, by a majority vote, to install a cell phone tower within the church steeple. What I found disturbing was not the vote but Kathryn Schenkman’s alarmist letter to the editor of March 6.

I Googled the phrase "risk of cell towers" and was presented with 295,000 options, many of which conclude that there is no definitive evidence to support either side of this issue. This is not something Schenkman pointed out in her lengthy letter.

Having access to cell phones in the valley could save some folks a great deal of money by allowing them to give up their land lines. It could also make the valley more attractive to potential home and business owners. It is the next step to bringing our valley into the information age to ensure its future.

Valley residents' interest in improved information technology is evidenced by each town's approval at Town Meeting of a fiber optic network I urge the community to move this issue forward and bring our valley into the age of new technology.
